In the wake of their global smash hit single "Unbelievable", EMF returned to the studio and released first a new EP, Unexplained, and then their sophomore full length album, Stigma. Both were a departure from the sound that had made them famous; the guitars were more prominent and distorted, the drums were bigger and heavier, the sound was darker and more brooding. Met by an audience expecting danceable pop music, they were virtually ignored by the public, despite having been reasonably well received by critics.
Today this EP/LP combo has aged far better than their monster-hit debut album. Here EMF anticipates much of the sound that would dominate the charts for the next decade.
